118 years. Red Deer River Naturalists are steeped in history. From the early days of The North West Entomological Society, to the incorporated Alberta History Society, to today’s RDRN.

  • 1898

    North West Entomological Society (NWES)

    The North West Entomological Society was founded in Blackfalds, Alberta, the first meeting held on March 10, 1898.

    Alberta Natural History Society (ANHS)

    Following the creation of the Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan in 1905, the Alberta Natural History Society was formed in Innisfail in the spring of 1906.

    Red Deer River Naturalists (RDRN)

    A resurgence of interest in RDRN occurred in the early 1970’s.

RDRN acknowledges the traditional territory of Treaty 6 of the Blackfoot, Cree, Dene, Nakota Sioux, and Saulteaux Peoples, the traditional territory of Treaty 7 of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Tsuut’ina, and Stoney Nakota Peoples and the Métis Nation of Alberta.
