RDRN/Nature Central Guided Nature Hike

October 18 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

You are all invited to the RDRN/Nature Central Fall Hike near the Markerville Natural Area

When: Sunday October 18, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Access: Traveling south from Red Deer on Hwy 2A towards Penhold, turn  right to drive west on Hwy 592 for approximately 15 km, then turn left to head south on Hwy 781 until turning right on Hwy 54, heading west before turning left on Range Road 20. We can park along the shoulders of the dead-end road.

Carry water, energy snack and bear spray. Dress for the weather, wear layers and carry rain gear and a hat as required by conditions. Wear sturdy hiking footwear as we will be covering off-trail areas with rocky/uneven terrain.

While the natural area itself is not easily accessible, we will be exploring a path just southeast of the property for a short 3km, but beautiful hike along the river, adjacent to a mixed-wood forest. During a recent visit, Moose tracks were visible near the river and spotted were a Belted Kingfisher, Osprey, as well as Golden-crowned Kinglets, Boreal and Black-capped Chickadees. Other wildlife in this area may include black bears, cougars, deer, and weasels.

If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please email Nature Central to register at nir.rdrn.nature@gmail.com, as spots are limited.
