DESCRIPTION:Join us for a RDRN/Nature Central Snowshoeing & Winter Hike Sunday\, February 22\, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. for a winter adventure at Stonhouse\, a Conservation Site protected area located 35 km east of Red Deer and 3 km north of Pine Lake. \nThe property features rolling hills\, open meadows and wetlands\, perfect for exploring in the snow. \nWhether we snowshoe (bring your own snowshoes) or take a winter walk will depend on Mother Nature\, but either way\, you’ll enjoy fresh air and beautiful scenery.  \nSpaces are limited\, so email nir.rdrn.nature@gmail.com to register and receive directions! \nBe sure to dress warmly for winter conditions\, wear sturdy foot-ware\, bring water and an energy snack. Poles if you have them. \nNo Membership Required. This event is open to all. \nNote: Events are subject to cancellation due to weather conditions and other factors. DESCRIPTION:You are all invited to the Red Deer River Naturalists February Monthly Meeting Speaker Series \nSpeaker: Elissa Odgren \nTopic: Education and Conservation in the Peruvian Amazon \nWhen: February 26\, 2026 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. \nWhere: Held at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre\, 6300 45 Ave.\, Red Deer\, AB T4N 3M4\, in the Theatre room. \nThis presentation highlights a biology Teacher’s experience in the Peruvian rainforest as a participant in The Morpho Institute’s 10-day workshop\, Educator Academy in the Amazon. Hear about her experience with bats\, bugs\, sloths and snakes. Enjoy photos of her adventures boating on the Amazon River\, traversing treetop canopy walkways\, and learning from local naturalist guides. Celebrate The Morpho Institute’s support of the Indigenous Maijuna’s conservation efforts\, CONAPAC’s far-reaching community work and a local bird club’s successful binocular program. \nElissa Odgren is a biology instructor at Red Deer Polytechnic. She is a passionate educator with decades of experience helping students foster their love of biology and respect for the environment. Elissa has participated in a variety of research studies with reptiles\, amphibians and bats throughout North America. She enjoys being in nature\, reading books about biology and adding native plants to her yard. \nAll are welcome\, you do not need to be a RDRN member to attend.
