It features two man-made ponds\, a regional pathway and numerous\, wildlife and waterfowl to experience. DESCRIPTION:You are all invited to the RDRN November Monthly Meeting Speaker Series \nSpeaker: Lisa Verbisky \nTopic: Soil Characteristics in the Context of Land Reclamation \nWhen: November 23\, 2023 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. \nWhere: Held at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre\, 6300 45 Ave\, Red Deer\, AB T4N 3M4\, in the Theatre room. \nAll are welcome\, you do not have to be a RDRN member to attend. \nLisa Verbisky has a Master’s of Science degree from the University of Alberta. She has worked on major projects: a salmon survey in northern Quebec\, a project investigating biodiversity of pre- and post-harvest sites on Alberta Pacific’s forestry management area\, and a chrono sequence comparing diversity of fire versus harvest disturbed stands in northwestern Alberta. Although her primary focus has been landscape ecology\, she developed a passion for soils while living and working in the Peace Region in Northern BC. As the instructor of a land reclamation diploma\, Lisa developed her knowledge in this field to pass this skill on to her students. Lisa is the Associate Dean at the Donald School of Business\, Science and Technology (RDP).

Pin: 52°24’07.9″N 113°09’03.6″W\nAugust 2\, 2023 starting at 7:00 p.m.\nYour Hosts: Myrna Pearman & Claudia Lipski. Expect to encounter a wide variety of bird species\, including White-faced Ibis\, Sora\, Black Tern\, Forster’s Tern\, Common Tern and Black-necked Stilt.\nThere is no formal boat launch at this site\, so participants should have water shoes and be comfortable with getting in and out of a water vessel from a muddy shoreline. However\, you’ll find ample parking and an outhouse facility! This trip will be considered an “informal” paddle. Each participant must sign a waiver\, have some prior canoeing/kayaking experience\, have proper life jackets and safety equipment\, and follow all regulations related to small water vessels.
