Once on the brink of extinction\, these majestic birds have made an incredible comeback thanks to decades of dedicated conservation efforts. Discover their fascinating lives\, the challenges they’ve faced and the ongoing work to support their recovery. Hear how the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is contributing through collaborative research\, community engagement and conservation breeding to ensure a future for these iconic birds. \nEllie Coleman: Ellie is the Whooping Crane Conservation Associate at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. She supports all aspects of the Whooping Crane Program\, including fieldwork\, research and community outreach. \nAllison Scovil: Allison is the Conservation Linkage Associate for the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. Often overlooked\, muskrats play critical roles in wetlands and beyond. They might not be on a Canadian coin\, but the role they play in sustaining Canada’s wetlands is priceless. \nDr. Glynnis Hood is a Professor Emerita and ecologist at the University of Alberta and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Saskatchewan. Her research interests include aquatic ecology\, wildlife biology and human-wildlife interactions. She is the author of Semi-aquatic Mammals: Ecology and Biology\, The Beaver Manifesto (TBM)\, A Cabin Christmas\, and the newly released second-edition of TBM entitled The Beaver Manifesto: Conservation\, Conflict and the Future of Wetlands.  \nAll are welcome\, you do not have to be a RDRN member to attend.

Hear about her experience with bats\, bugs\, sloths and snakes. Enjoy photos of her adventures boating on the Amazon River\, traversing treetop canopy walkways\, and learning from local naturalist guides. Celebrate The Morpho Institute’s support of the Indigenous Maijuna’s conservation efforts\, CONAPAC’s far-reaching community work and a local bird club’s successful binocular program. \nElissa Odgren is a biology instructor at Red Deer Polytechnic. She is a passionate educator with decades of experience helping students foster their love of biology and respect for the environment. Elissa has participated in a variety of research studies with reptiles\, amphibians and bats throughout North America. Exploring human-nature connections and stark realities\, Lorne Fitch calls on us all to safeguard imperilled species and threatened places. He seeks to inspire change through education\, motivation and a touch of righteous anger. \nLorne has been a Biologist for over 50 years\, working on many issues related to use of land and water. Lorne is a professional Biologist\, a retired provincial Fish and Wildlife Biologist\, was one of the co-founders of the stewardship initiative Cows and Fish\, and a former Adjunct Professor with the University of Calgary.\nWe will also welcome Ed Karpuk who will unveil the new improved Nature Central website Story Map.\nAll are welcome\, you do not have to be a RDRN member to attend. \nLorne Fitch
