DESCRIPTION:Bjorge Farm Tour in the Battle River Valley.  \nExplore the beautiful Battle River Valley June 22 and 23\, 2019\n \nLocation: Meet at the Ferry Point Campground near Meeting Creek 10:00 a.m. We will carpool from Red Deer\n \nThis trip will involve a three-hour easy to medium hike through the Battle River Hills\, and a stop at the old homestead of the Bjorge’s to check for Turkey Vultures. Besides the vultures\, some of the highlights of the trip might be Brown Thrasher\, Great Horned Owl\, Mountain Bluebird\, Cliff Swallow. \nCome out for a day or the weekend. You have two ways to participate in this trip: 1. Go out on Saturday and meet at 10:00 a.m. and spend the day. Also you can camp overnight at the Ferry Point Campground\, south of the Battle River bridge on Range Road 184. (Some tents will be available if you don’t have your own.) Bring your own food and sleeping gear. There is a minimal charge for the campsite. On Saturday night there will be a pot luck supper. 2. Go out on Sunday and meet at the campground at 10:00 a.m. for a walking tour of the area.\n \nHost: Judy Boyd 403-358-1098\, please call to confirm attendance\n \nBring your binoculars\, hat\, sunscreen\, camera\, insect repellent\, and dress for the weather. \nAll are welcome\, you do not have to be a RDRN member to attend. \n \n

SUMMARY:Ya-Ha-Tinda Hike
DESCRIPTION:Ya-Ha-Tinda\, “Mountain Prairie” in the Stoney language\,  is an inspiring region of prairie and parkland surrounded by mountain peaks.  Begin in the Red Deer River valley and learn about the traditional and historical uses of the land.  Then meander along Bighorn Creek\, climbing up to several breath-taking vantage points.  We will hike up through montane forest to a panoramic valley viewpoint\, then further on to the summit of Sheep Mountain\, taking in a superb 360 degree view. \nJoin William Davies and members of the Red Deer River Naturalists (RDRN) to learn about their great stewardship work to protect an important watershed and  to learn more about the history and biodiversity associated with this region. \nCost: $20 AWA members\, $25 non-members \nPlease Note: This is a Difficult hike of approximately 16 kilometres and an elevation gain of about 575 metres (1900 feet).
