SUMMARY:Field Trip to Ferry Point
DESCRIPTION:We will car pool up to the Bjorge property on June 20 where there is the possibility of turkey vultures nesting in the old homestead. This trip will involve a three hour easy to medium hike through the Battle River Hills. Call Judy at 403-358-1098 to confirm attendance. There are two options for this trip. You can go out on Saturday and camp overnight at the Ferry Point Campground. (Some tents will be available if you don’t have your own. Bring your own food\, and sleeping gear. There is a minimal cost for the campsite.) Second option is to meet at Meeting Creek (approximately a two hour drive from Red Deer) at 10 a.m. on June 21. Please bring insect repellent and sunscreen. On Saturday night there will be a Potluck Supper. \n

DESCRIPTION:We will carpool to the Raven Trout Farm to spend the day hiking\, looking specifically for otters and wood ducks. We leave Red Deer at 9 a.m. and will leave the Trout Farm at 3 p.m. Bring a lunch and all snacks and drinks. It is advisable to wear good hiking boots with gators or rubber boots. SUMMARY:Ya-Ha-Tinda Hike
DESCRIPTION:Ya-Ha-Tinda\, “Mountain Prairie” in the Stoney language\,  is an inspiring region of prairie and parkland surrounded by mountain peaks.  Begin in the Red Deer River valley and learn about the traditional and historical uses of the land.  Then meander along Bighorn Creek\, climbing up to several breath-taking vantage points.  We will hike up through montane forest to a panoramic valley viewpoint\, then further on to the summit of Sheep Mountain\, taking in a superb 360 degree view. \nJoin William Davies and members of the Red Deer River Naturalists (RDRN) to learn about their great stewardship work to protect an important watershed and  to learn more about the history and biodiversity associated with this region. \nCost: $20 AWA members\, $25 non-members \nPlease Note: This is a Difficult hike of approximately 16 kilometres and an elevation gain of about 575 metres (1900 feet).
