DESCRIPTION:NOTE: THIS EVENT WAS ORIGINALLY AT THE NARROWS BUT WAS CHANGED DUE TO LOW WATER\nAn evening Nature/Photography Registered Paddle with Nature Central & RDRN at Haunted Lakes\, on the north end of the Haunted Lakes Golf Club and Campground. Pin: 52°24’07.9″N 113°09’03.6″W\nAugust 2\, 2023 starting at 7:00 p.m.\nYour Hosts: Myrna Pearman & Claudia Lipski. Expect to encounter a wide variety of bird species\, including White-faced Ibis\, Sora\, Black Tern\, Forster’s Tern\, Common Tern and Black-necked Stilt.\nThere is no formal boat launch at this site\, so participants should have water shoes and be comfortable with getting in and out of a water vessel from a muddy shoreline. However\, you’ll find ample parking and an outhouse facility! This trip will be considered an “informal” paddle. Each participant must sign a waiver\, have some prior canoeing/kayaking experience\, have proper life jackets and safety equipment\, and follow all regulations related to small water vessels. Items to bring: kayak or canoe\, life jacket\, snacks\, water\, binoculars\, camera/phone\, sunscreen and bug spray.\nMaximum 20 participants\, secure your spot by registering at nir.rdrn.nature@gmail.com.

DESCRIPTION:Red Deer River Naturalists Bird Focus Group Walk \nLocation: Open Creek Dam Campground \nDirections: 55027 Hwy 53. Go west of Rimbey on Hwy 53 for 32 km\, then south on RR 5-5A. Plan to walk around the reservoir counter-clockwise\, starting from the SW day use area (the one with a camp kitchen). Keep right past the Sani Dump to get to that particular day use area. (If you get to the camp office/store or the dam itself\, you have gone too far\, see map.) We’ll take the trail access near site 42. You should carry bear spray on this walk. \nWhen: August 5\, 2023 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Maybe longer. \nHost: Chris Olsen \nAll are welcome\, you do not have to be a RDRN member to attend. \nBring your binoculars*\, camera/phone\, bug spray and sunscreen. Wear sturdy hiking footwear. Some trails are on rough terrain. Distances vary\, but may be up to 5 kms. Carry water and an energy snack. Wear layers and carry rain gear and a hat as required by conditions. Let Chris know if you have any potential medical issues. \n*RDRN have two birding binoculars that can be borrowed (first come\, first serve) by new participants. DESCRIPTION:Red Deer River Naturalists Bird Focus Group Walk \nLocation: Frank Lake \nDirections: From the High River overpass of Highway 2\, proceed east on Highway 23 for 5.1 km. There is a turnoff on the south side of the road that will take you to the main access gate and parking lot. During open hours\, vehicles can proceed through this gate and continue for 1.6 km to the viewing blind. Meet at the parking lot for the viewing blind. We’ll start there and walk to some nearby viewing areas\, and also drive to some related wetlands. \nWhen: August 19\, 2023 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. \nHost: Chris Olsen \nAll are welcome\, you do not have to be a RDRN member to attend. \nBring your binoculars*\, camera/phone\, bug spray and sunscreen.
